The History of NTS
2008 - 2011
My brother and I, (Adrian & Gerard Kerins) worked on the initial development of the C&F turbines from base design and installing, tower & blade, testing and development, and setup of a wind generator to allow for the testing of the turbines at the C&F Green energy factory. Preparing the site and fully installing a CF11, CF15 and CF20 along with meteorological towers in Ireland for MCS certification in the UK market.
2011 - 2015
We then went on to work as sub-contractors for C&F Green Energy Installing turbine bases throughout the UK which then in turn led us to sub-contracting the installation and set up of the turbines on various customer sites throughout the UK. Through that, it led us to mainly base ourselves in the North East of Scotland where there was a high concentration of installations throughout the North East and North of Scotland.
In late 2014 and early 2015 due to a lack of support from C&F Green energy to customers, we approached C&F Green Energy to become an authorised service provider for the Highlands & Islands. Northern Turbine Services Ltd was established in 2015 as we recognised that there was demand to provide a better level of service, support and maintenance schedule for turbine owners.
2016 - 2019
We were approached by C&F Green Energy to take over the servicing and repairs for the Grampian area and also to become the only UK based approved warranty repair centre. We initially served Aberdeenshire out of Fyvie in 2016 before moving to Aberchirder in 2018. We also moved into our new premises in Hatston, Orkney which enabled us to carry out major workshop repairs as well as minor ones in the Aberdeenshire workshop.
2020 - 2024
Following C&F Green Energy going into liquidation in April 2019, we continued to provide the level of service that our customers had come to expect and take on new C&F turbine customers, gradually expanding our remit to nearly 400 C&F turbines across the country.
From 2021 - 2022 we covered the majority of our turbine customers to update their G59 loss of mains systems for the ALoMCP programme rolled out by DNOs across the country to ensure compliance with G59-3 or reprogramming to the new G99 standard depending on the sytem installed.
Over the years following demand as other manufacturers have folded, we have expanded to assisting customers all over the UK for a wide range of small turbines from Aircons to Xzeres, we work on most small turbines between 3 and 30kw. With this in mind in June 2022 we acquired Rousay Engineering for CNC machining and to provide support for turbines which no longer have manufacturers in existence, by allowing us to manufacture components and develop and improve on them where possible.
We've also expanded our range of works to include turbine base repairs and retrofits, taking on turbines which required major work to bring it to an operational level or a change in turbine nacelle, by adapting the existing tower and inverters to suit.
2025 - onwards
2025 is a big year for NTS as we hit the 10 year mark in July!
Over the years we have worked hard try to keep down time to a minimum as we understand the cost implications for our customers. For our isles and distant customers, we try to combine jobs and any general maintenance and service work required to minimise travel costs. We will continue to strive to improve our service and products and provide support to microgeneration turbine owners across the UK.
